How soon will my article be indexed?

Hi folks,
24 March 2012: This article is one of a serious of articles on how to get your Blog indexed quickly on the Search Engines.  You can see the first article of the series here.  You will see from the original article that I am researching how do blogs get indexed so quickly on the search engines.  There are many theories on the forums on how blogs get indexed so quickly such as:- 1. Ping-o-matic pinging service, 2. Google likes blogs, 3. the sitemap generator.

I had deliberately not put a link on Barrowvale.ie to the blog because I don’t want Google to find it this way.  I wanted to see how quickly would ping-o-matic update the blog lists and then be picked up by Google.  Well the good news is that one week after I removed the privacy settings from the WordPress settings that the Barrowvale Blog is now indexed in Google.  Infact, when I did a search today in Google for the search phrase, “Why do blog posts get crawled so fast”, barrowvale.ie/blog/why-do-blogs-posts-get-crawled-so-fast comes up No. 1 on Google. Google says the page was indexed 6 days ago so it was literally indexed within 24 hours of being posted.  The next question is how did Google find it,  is it because of ping-o-matic update service or because of technorati update service?  It’s obviously one of them because there was no link to the Barrowvale blog posted anywhere.

Ok well we can see the Barrowvale Blog on Google so let’s see if we can find it on the services that ping-o-matic pings. Here is a list of them below that you can find on the pingomatic.com website:-
Weblogs.com, Blo.gs, FeedBurner.com, NewsGator.com, My.Yahoo.com, PubSub.com, Blogdigger.com, Weblogalot.com, NewsIsFree.com, TopicExchange.com, BlogSearch.Google.com, Spinn3r.com, PostRank.com, SkyGrid.com, Collecta.com, Superfeedr.com.

Strangely, I can’t find barrowvale.ie on any of these websites!!  I just used search terms on Google like:-
barrowvale.ie site:FeedBurner.com
But there’s no sign of it.  I also searched on technorati.com and no sign there either!!

Then I thought maybe some of these sites only display indexed blogs to subscribers of their service so to test this assumption I decided to search for apple.com on each of them through Google.  I just used search terms on Google like:-
apple.com site:FeedBurner.com
Well to my surprise nearly all of them listed results for apple.com, see results below:-
Weblogs.com(104 results), Blo.gs(1 result),FeedBurner.com(3,510 results),NewsGator.com(170 results),My.Yahoo.com(379 results),PubSub.com(184,000 results, wow!!), Blogdigger.com(46 results), NewsIsFree.com(10,100 results), PostRank.com(585 results),SkyGrid.com(17 results),Superfeedr.com(8 results)

Hmm, I wonder what about the Tradesmen.ie blog, it’s been up and running for a couple of years, let’s see which of these services list it when I search Google again using search terms like:-
tradesmen.ie site:FeedBurner.com
Here’s the results below:-
Weblogs.com(0 results), Blo.gs(0 results),FeedBurner.com(8 results, non about tradesmen.ie though),NewsGator.com(0 results),My.Yahoo.com(0 results),PubSub.com(24,500 results, non about tradesmen.ie though), Blogdigger.com(0 results), NewsIsFree.com(281 results, non about tradesmen.ie), PostRank.com(3 results, non about tradesmen.ie),SkyGrid.com(0 results),Superfeedr.com(0 results)
It makes me wonder are these sites of much use at all if they are not indexing the blogs that they are being notified about!!

Then I did a search for barrowvale.ie on each of the sites directly and the only site that I found it on was BlogSearch.Google.com.  Therefore the only conclusion that I can come to is that the ping-o-matic update service worked for BlogSearch.Google.com and this must be the service that updated the Google main index.  See screenshot below:-
Barrowvale.ie on blogsearch.googleI will post this blog in the next few minutes and we’ll see how quickly it gets indexed on Google this time (after all that’s what this article is about:-) ).  The article will be posted today March 24 2012 at 16:49 GMT.  The next step will be to add a link to the blog on the barrowvale site.  As we have seen the blog is already indexed on Google now so it shouldn’t make much of a difference.   Next steps after that will be as follows:-
1. Add the blog to the sitemap to see does it have any effect on how quickly it is indexed in Google.

2.  set up blogs under different names such as ‘News’ or ‘Events’ or ‘Cool Stuff’.  Seemingly Google loves blogs so we want to see does Google still index articles or content that are similar to a blog but do not use the name of ‘blog’.

If you are interested to see the results please feel free to bookmark or subscribe to the blog or to add your comments below.
